Caleb Jones’ return to Colorado has been positive for him and Avalanche

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:09:24 GMT

Caleb Jones spent three seasons trying to establish himself as an NHL player, then three more as a full-time guy in the league with no more AHL bus rides or shuttling back and forth between two teams. Then he had to start this season back in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, first as a member of the Hurricanes and then with the Avalanche because Carolina doesn’t have its own affiliate. So when Jones joined the Avs and played well in his first couple of games, he had to feel pretty good about life in general.Trying to fit in with a new team and play well enough to stick around is hard enough, but the hockey gods gave Jones a little extra bit of adversity to deal with last week at an Avalanche practice … and he is currently sporting a rather robust black eye as a reminder.“Just a stick to the face,” Jones said. “It ended up doing a lot more damage than I thought it would. It definitely hurt. I think it looks pretty cool, so I’ll take advantage of that.R...

Only Beaver Creek, Crested Butte, Powderhorn and the Aspen area mountains are at or near average snowpack for this time of year. Nearly every area that is open for skiing is offering 6% of its skiable terrain or less. The only exception is Eldora, which is reporting 15% of its terrain in operation. There is a storm due this weekend, according to the OpenSnow forecasting and reporting service, one that could deliver a foot or two to Purgatory and Wolf Creek, but elsewhere it may be only good for three to eight inches. Snow is expected to begin falling Thursday night in some locations and continue through Saturday afternoon, according to OpenSnow’s Joel Gratz.Related ArticlesOutdoors | ...

PHOENIX — Draymond Green has two games left to serve in his five-game suspension, but the Warriors veteran is finding ways around the restrictions to stay involved.Green voluntarily participated in an optional shoot around and light scrimmage with the Warriors’ bench guys away from Footprint Arena before Wednesday’s game against the Phoenix Suns. Gary Payton II also participated in the shoot around and looked spry, but will sit out for a third straight game with a left foot strain.League rules say Green can’t be at the arena before, during or after any game he’s suspended for, but he’s spent time around the team on non-game days scrimmaging with the younger players, lending his voice while he can’t lend a hand. He had plenty to say about Golden State’s inconsistencies on defense in his absence, rookie Brandin Podziemski said.“Just having his presence and voice means a lot for me, for Trayce (Jackson-Davis), for the young guys,...

Yosemite National Park’s famed Tioga Road — a 46-mile route through the park’s scenic high country — has closed for the winter. One of the marquee drives in America’s national park system, the winding, two-lane route bisects Yosemite’s alpine center, passing through meadows and forests of lodgepole pine and juniper. It runs from Crane Flat to Tioga Pass, where it crests at 9,945 feet along the highest highway pass in California.“We’ve had a few storm systems over the last couple of weeks, and even though they didn’t produce a lot of snow, there is some snow and ice at the higher elevations along the Tioga Road,” said Scott Gediman, a Yosemite spokesman. “With the cold temperatures at night it isn’t melting. For safety reasons, we decided to close it for the season.”Park officials temporarily closed the road Nov. 15, and made the closure permanent for the winter season on Tuesday afternoon. Typically the road closes due to snow and ice in November a...
