Police identify cyclist killed in Northwest DC shooting

A bicyclist shot dead in Northwest D.C. on Saturday has been identified by police.Resident Dzhoy Zuckerman, 27, was discovered by police just before 12:10 a.m. Saturday with apparent gunshot wounds in the 6100 block of 3rd Street in Northwest.Zuckerman wasn’t breathing when first responders found him. He died at the scene.Zuckerman was identified as a cyclist and friend who was “a very good influence on others” by community members speaking to news outlet NBC Washington.“Phenomenal person,” cyclist Amos Smith said. “This is a person that’s so uplifting in our community.”D.C. Police did not share information about possible suspects in this incident.The department is offering $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of suspects in this case.An approximate shooting location is included in the map below. There were many lessons learned during the pandemic. Two local universities say one of them is that the District doesn’t have enough healthcare workers who know how to use cutting-edge data and technology.The University of the District of Columbia and Howard University are teaming up to fill the gap with a homegrown workforce that is prepared for the next healthcare emergency.Professors created a program called PHIT4DC. It allows almost anyone, from high schoolers to working healthcare professionals, to enroll in public health informatics and technology courses, said Dr. Mary Awuonda, the director of the Telepharmacy Center at Howard University.“The program is offered in several pathways,” she said. “We have a no-wrong-door model for entry. After seven hours on the scene, police wrap up their investigation of a deadly overnight shooting in a Lauderhill neighborhood.The Lauderhill Police Department received calls for help around 11:26 p.m. on Saturday after reports about several people being shot after a party along 3170 Northwest 2nd Street. “I saw about 30 shots on the ground,” said a witness. Upon arrival, officers discovered four adult gunshot wound victims. Lauderhill Fire Rescue and BSO rescue transported two of the victims to Broward Health Hospital in Fort Lauderdale with non-life-threatening injuries. The National Weather Service has issued a Tornando Watch for much of New England as a series of powerful storms move through New England on Sunday.The watch is in effect until 3 p.m.Tornado warnings already have been issued for several parts of Massachusettts and southern New Hampshire due to rotating cells inside severe thunderstorms. An after-school boxing program in Revere provides an outlet for young students to destress.The Revere Boxing Outreach program in Revere is a nonprofit run by volunteers and is now in its second successful year.Joe Singer, a school resource officer for Revere Public Schools, said the program all started in his office.“I keep my door open and the kids would walk by on the way to gym or classes and they’d see me hitting the bag,” he said, “and a couple of freshmen would be like ‘hey that’s awesome can we go in and hit the bag sometime?’“One bag turned into two, and two bags turned into four, next thing you know we’re running a little boxing class right out of my 20 by 20 office,” he said.Singer then received a grant to start the boxing gym inside of the empty McKinley School. An “atmospheric river” first brought the state a tornado warning — that ended at 9:15 a.m. — and now a tornado watch until 3 p.m. for most of Massachusetts.According to the National Weather Service, most of Connecticut and sections of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and southern Maine fall under that watch.The rest of Massachusetts and Vermont are under a thunderstorm and flood watches on and off into tomorrow. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — WHAT HAPPENED?Federal investigators discovered a human remains trade with connections to Harvard Medical School and have arrested people in several states. According to prosecutors, the defendants were part of a nationwide network of people who bought and sold remains stolen from the medical school and an Arkansas mortuary. One of those charged, 55-year-old Cedric Lodge, of New Hampshire, allegedly took dissected parts of cadavers that had been donated to Harvard in a scheme that started back in 2018, prosecutors said.
