Concert review: Keith Urban and his guitar put on an exuberant Grandstand show

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 03:34:16 GMT

There was a time when rock ‘n’ roll and country were at war with one another. Your average rural music lover was either tuned to a radio station that poured out soaring electric guitar solos and thundering bass lines or to twangy fare that was one pealing pedal steel guitar note this side of campfire folk. Then up from Australia came Keith Urban to bridge the divide. SAN JOSE — Asher Hong was beaming Saturday night as he stood at the top of the podium with a gold medal around his neck. “It’s awesome,” said Hong, the new U.S. all-around champion. “I’ve put in a lot of hard work… just to get to this point of feeling consistent and comfortable with all of these routines.
